Phuket's Tesco Lotus give away cloth bags by Phuket Index News

In a bid to rid Phuket of some its environmentally unfriendly plastic bags Tesco Lotus finally launched a campaign, be it only for 2 days, providing shoppers with cloth bags replace the plastic ones. Shoppers who visited and purchased good from either the Phuket Town or Thalang hypermarkets on 17^th ? 19^th August 2012 were given the more environmentally friendly cloth bags.

This campaign was one of many activities that Tesco Lotus is participating in to support Phuket?s commitment to improving its environmental. It is a part of Tesco Lotus?s commitment to reduce the environmental problems in the community. During the past Tesco Lotus has focused on supporting environmental activities in Phuket such as the project to reduce the number of plastic bags by giving away 30,000 cloth bags and has supported training programs aimed at teaching youngsters on caring for the environment.

Tesco Lotus and its employees will host a beach cleaning activity to clean up Surin Beach on 23 August 2012.

Walsh criticizes GOP for 'piling on' Akin

Though he?s continuing to criticize GOP Senate candidate Todd Akin?s comments over ?legitimate rape,? Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh says he?s bothered by the lack of support Akin is getting from his own party.

?What he said was offensive, insulting and wrong, but I?m bothered by this rush to pile on,? Walsh said Tuesday evening at a Young Republicans conference in Yorkville. ?And I?m bothered by the silence of members of our own party to stand up for him.?

The comments came just hours after Akin let a Tuesday deadline to bow out of the race pass by, despite calls from party leaders, including presumptive GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and National Republican Senatorial Committee Chair John Cornyn of Texas, to do so.

Walsh, a McHenry Tea Partyer, has long portrayed himself as a sort of GOP outsider. Next week, during the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., he has chosen to stay home and campaign for re-election in the 8th Congressional District instead of ?mingle with party insiders.?

On Monday, Walsh, who has called himself ?pro-life without exception,? described Akin?s remarks as ?not just idiotic and stupid? but ?offensive to all women, especially those who have had to endure sexual abuse. He needs to try to make things right and apologize to those who he has offended.?

Other members of the Illinois congressional delegation, including House GOP Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam, of Wheaton, Rep. Judy Biggert of Hinsdale and Rep. Robert Dold, of Kenilworth, also criticized Akin?s statements. None, however, called for him to step down.

Powerball winner contacts Michigan Lottery, agency says

(Reuters) - The Michigan Lottery said on Wednesday that the winner of last week's $337 million Powerball jackpot had contacted the agency, but officials were still keeping the winner's identity under wraps.

In a brief statement, the agency said, "details about the prize-winner will not be released until the prize, the third largest in Powerball history, is claimed."

The winner has one year from the August 15 drawing to claim the prize, the agency said.

The single winning ticket was purchased at a Sunoco gas station and convenience store in Lapeer, Michigan, about 60 miles north of Detroit.

The winner has the choice of taking the $337 million jackpot in annual payments over the next 29 years, or as a one-time cash award of $224.66 million, before taxes.

Powerball officials say most winners opt for the one-time payout.

A Powerball ticket costs $2.

In March, three winning tickets shared the largest U.S. lottery jackpot, the $656 million Mega Millions drawing.

Michelle Obama to appear on 'Dr. Oz Show'

NEW YORK (AP) ? Michelle Obama is making a house call on "The Dr. Oz Show."

The show's producers say the first lady will tape an appearance Wednesday to discuss new provisions of her "Let's Move!" campaign and the Presidential Youth Fitness Program.

Producers said Thursday that Mrs. Obama's appearance will be taped at the show's New York studio for national broadcast Sept. 14.

The show's host, Mehmet Oz, says he's "honored" that she has chosen to be a guest on his show.

"The Dr. Oz Show," which airs weekdays in syndication, starts its fourth season next month.

The first lady also will appear on the CBS "Rachael Ray" season-seven premiere Sept. 17, and discuss health and fitness.

Tuition.io, The Mint.com Of Student Loans, Now Manages Over $60M In Debt Across Its Platform

Tuition.io, a company out of Launchpad.la accelerator, is now accounting for over $60 million in aggregate user debt on its platform. Essentially the Mint.com for students in debt, aTuition.io lets kids fresh out of college get a better handle on their finances. And according to the company, 37 million Americans have student loan debt, 38 percent of whom are not making any progress paying it off.
