"Good riddance to him,"?John Cleese said at his memorial service, in 1989, "the freeloading bastard." A decade later, his "ashes" were kicked around onstage at a comedy festival in Aspen. It's with this kind of irreverent?reverence the animated story of Graham Chapman's life?was also approached.?
A Liar's Autobiography?? described as?"one untrue story" about a "true comic genius"?? is adapted from Chapman's fictionalised autobiography, following him from his student days at Cambridge to worldwide fame with Monty Python.
The Animate Chapman project saw 14 animation studios?? including Trunk, Peepshow and Cake?? team up with?five Pythons?? Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam, John Cleese and "the dead one"?? to create an 85-minute feature spanning 17 different animated styles.
To celebrate the opening night gala of A Liar?s Autobiography,?LOCO are holding a four-day animation exhibition at the BFI Southbank. Running from Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 January, 12-6pm, it showcases the work of all the British animation teams involved in bringing the Animate Chapman project to life, with original Monty Python memorabilia also on display.
A Liar's Autobiography will be in cinemas from Friday 8 February and available on demand and on DVD and Blu-ray from Monday 18 February. Don't miss it!
