CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) ? Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has weighed in on the U.S. presidential race, saying he prefers President Barack Obama.
"If I were American, I'd vote for Obama," Chavez said in a televised interview that aired Sunday.
The Venezuelan leader called Obama "a good guy" and said if the U.S. president were a Venezuelan, "I think ... he'd vote for Chavez."
Chavez is running for re-election, seeking another six years in office in an Oct. 7 vote. Obama faces Republican Mitt Romney in his November re-election bid.
Venezuela has had tense relations with the U.S. government for years, even though the United States remains the top buyer of oil from the country.
"I wish we could begin a new period of normal relations with the government of the United States," Chavez said in the interview on the Venezuelan television channel Televen.
Chavez and Obama shook hands at a 2009 summit, but relations have since cooled.
The U.S. Embassy in Caracas has been without an ambassador since July 2010, with Chavez rejecting Washington's nominee for ambassador, Larry Palmer, and accusing him of making disrespectful remarks about Venezuela's government. That led Washington to revoke the visa of the Venezuelan ambassador to the U.S.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) ? The Environmental Protection Agency says it will appeal a federal judge's July ruling that it overreached by setting up water-quality criteria for mountaintop removal mining operations in several Appalachia states.
EPA filed notice of intent Thursday to appeal the ruling by Judge Reggie Walton in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
Last year, the EPA revised 2010 standards by tightening guidelines on the practice of dumping waste from surface mine blasting into valley waterway. The National Mining Association sued, and West Virginia and Kentucky joined the lawsuit.
Walton found the EPA infringed on state regulators' authority to permit mines using federal clean-water and surface-mining laws.
His ruling was one of several setbacks to the EPA in its attempt to crack down on mountaintop removal coal mining.

The bill presented to Wednesday's cabinet by Prime Minister Sali Berisha gives intelligence and law enforcement agencies broad powers to work with private companies to share information on Internet users.
?If the current law provides for the interception of vocal communications, meaning telephone lines or GSM networks, the new bill will add interceptions that pass through Internet protocol, including voice, navigation and electronic mail,? Arjan Dyrmishi, head of the Center for European & Security Affairs at the Tirana Institute of Mediation and Democracy, IDM, explained.
Dyrmishi said the bill will oblige service providers to install capacities at their own cost to enable government agencies to gain access to electronic communications.? ?
The bill also allows for the decentralization of the wiretapping process on criminal cases from the general prosecutor?s office to regional prosecutors' offices.
Dyrmishi underlines that although such decentralization has nothing wrong about it from a legal point of view, it opens up a number of technical challenges concerning the oversight of such interceptions.
?As in any democratic country, the courts must order interceptions [to be valid in criminal cases], but decentralization of interceptions will make the process of oversight difficult,? he said.?
?Only about 1 per cent of all interceptions end up in court as part of a criminal proceeding, so the question is what happens with the rest,? he added.
The law on the interception of communications was last amended in October 2009. The changes increased the number of government agencies with competencies to intercept communications.
An IDM study in 2010 noted that several Albanian institutions currently have the power to intercept communications.
These include the State Security Agency, SHISH, the General Prosecutor?s Office, the intelligence and law enforcement agencies of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Defence.
The 2009 amendment also granted wiretapping capabilities to the Internal Audit Service of the Ministry of Interior. ?
Dyrmishi said that both the current and past amendments to the law had expanded the scope of agencies empowered to carry out interceptions - but without setting in place a proper watchdog system or control mechanism for the oversight of the law.
This increases the risk of illegal wiretapping, he says.
?It is widely accepted that implementation of laws is poor in Albania, and this law is no exception,? Dyrmishi said.
?The problem with all these [spying] capacities is that no independent supervisory body exists to monitor them,? he concluded.

Upon reading the various articles in my book, you may realize how much research one requires to acquire knowledge that reveals truth, defined and identified your way, and whether truth is subjective or objective, relative or absolute. Success in finding the answers to most of my questions led me to write these articles. Since they connect many thoughts on the path to realization, I could not combine all of them under one title. Right or wrong, these have settled as Truth in my mind, and will remain so until I learn to transcend further into this subject.
Spiritualism, spirituality or spiritual practices have their own connotations with different meanings for different people. It may connect to religion, science, philosophy, psychology, and personal development. It may also depend on the intensity of your needs and beliefs in evolving spirituality. What is important here is what you consider as true, dedicating yourself blindly to lofty spiritual ideals through million-dollar enriched spiritual gurus, with the quest for reaching heaven, money and love, or awakening to your own realization of truth and its values.
Traditionally, as we see now, many religions have regarded spirituality as their own authority and an integral part of their practices. Spirituality is to develop an individual's inner life with a larger reality into a more comprehensive self. Religion is imbued with various beliefs and superstitions bending towards any one supernatural God. Alternatively, we notice that scientists, physicists and neuroscientists today consider science and spirituality to be complimentary, not contradictory, to the extent that they are even trying to learn more about how the brain functions during reported spiritual experiences.
As Daniel Patrick Moynihan said, "Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but they are not entitled to their own facts." I truly believe that some spiritual practice is essential for personal wellbeing. Today, as we all know, unless we understand and manage our own thoughts and emotions, we cannot be balanced, calm and happy. This science or knowledge of obtaining the truth, how to manage the churning of our thought processes, is the content in most of my articles, to the best of my learning and experience. This realization of knowing the truth within your inner self is to me, the enlightenment I wish to seek in my life, rather than devote my time to praying, chanting or believing in some mystical consciousness.
In the enlightenment section in Wikipedia, Mandukya Upanishads states:
Enlightenment is a state of freedom from the ignorance that causes suffering. There is no necessity to attain mere belief in God, but it is necessary to have profound knowledge of the truth that lies behind the concept of the word God. The idea is not to know God as a different being but to know, one's own real self and its essential nature, which is the self of all. The preachings of religion make a person dependent on priests, temples, idols, blind faith and dogma, and dependence on these is a habit of the lower mind. Such crutches may be useful at a certain stage for some people, but they do not lead one to ultimate truth. A dependent mind is not free, and without freedom, enlightenment is impossible. Religious dogmas are full of beliefs and myths that do not satisfy the human intellect and that bind believers to a narrow view of life and human potential. Such preachings instilling more fear than love in the hearts of masses.
Therefore, as you may notice, my endeavour throughout my various articles has been to seek the ultimate truth hidden in all of us, irrespective of the source or belief, as long as I can understand the meaning of how to self-realize, without having to follow any blind faith in fantasies of religion or otherwise. Such a journey will awaken the truth in me about realities of life in totality, where there are no paradoxes, dualities, illusions or egoism.
What you might notice in yourself, as I have, is that when you know the truth, it shall set you free from bondages in life. Your behaviour will change for the better; your mind will no longer be dependent on autosuggestions from the past or nervous emotions; your mind would be under your control with the clarity necessary for correct behaviour, leading you towards the natural flowering of your personality. This knowledge of being true to yourself is going to change the way you are, your mannerisms, your personality and probably your life.

Hello everyone I hope you had a wonderful week. :-)
I'm feeling much better and have been working on several pieces including an antique pie safe I picked up at an auction recently.
Today I'm sharing a small table redo that I recently finished and carried to King's Antiques.
I'm not sure how you are going to take the finish I applied to this piece, but I enjoyed how the colors peeked through so much on the blanket chest I recently re-furbished I wanted to explore that look some more.?
This is what I started with a nice, vintage, solid?wood?table. ?I lightly sanded the piece just because I'm kind of weird and sometimes I just like to sand things! As I was using chalk paint it really wasn't necessary. I then thoroughly cleaned it.
Next I roughly painted the entire piece in patches with ASCP in Versailles Green, Greek Blue, and Duck Egg Blue. When that was thoroughly dry I applied a healthy coat of Old White.
My next step was to print the ballet fairy I found at The Graphic's Fairy onto tissue paper and transfer it to the center top of the table. ?On the sides of the table I used tissue paper flowers from a napkin, and on the bottom center roses from a napkin.When decoupaging tissue paper start by applying your decoupage medium to the area you want your image, and apply the image starting at the center and moving outward using a brush loaded with Mod Podge. Be sure to only use a couple of strokes in each area as the tissue will dissolve easily.
Once that was dry I took sandpaper and distressed the edges of the images to blend them to the piece better.
I then waxed the entire piece with clear paste wax and heavily distressed the entire piece. Then applied another coat of clear wax and lightly buffed.
I really liked how you could see all the colors showing through as if the piece had been painted time and again. ?You may even think that at one time there were more images on the top.?

You know what I like about what I do? If I paint something no one else likes I can always keep it myself! LOL Or if I have the time, and feel like it, I can sand it down and repaint it. It's all fun to me.
